KATHMANDU, Aug 4: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces today as monsoon conditions continue across the country.
According to the Division, the monsoon trough is currently located slightly north of its average position, close to Nepal's southern plains, resulting in generally cloudy conditions nationwide.
Light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely at a few places in the Himalayan region, while many hilly areas and some parts of the Tarai are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. The Division has also forecast moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning in many hilly areas and at a few places in the Tarai.
Heavy rain forecast in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki areas
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in the hilly and Tarai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally to fully cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely at a few places in the Himalayan region of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at a few places in the Himalayan areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The Division has also forecast moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning at many places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. Similar weather is likely at a few places in the hilly region of Karnali Province and the hilly and Tarai areas of Sudurpashchim Province.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as in parts of Madhesh Province.
The MFD has urged the public to remain alert, warning that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, debris flows and soil erosion. It also cautioned that adverse weather may disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation, and advised people to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts.
