KATHMANDU, July 13: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country today and urged the public to remain alert against possible weather-related disasters.
According to the division, the country is under the influence of monsoon winds, while the monsoon trough is currently positioned slightly north of its average location near the Nepal Tarai.
The weather is generally to mostly cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring in some places of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, and at one or two places in Madhes and Sudurpaschim provinces.
This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and generally cloudy in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely at many places in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at a few places in the mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Similarly, moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces; in the hilly and Tarai regions of Madhesh, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces; and at some places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Karnali Province.
Heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the Tarai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including Madhesh Province.

The MFD has urged the public to take necessary precautions against possible disasters, including flash floods, riverine flooding, landslides and soil erosion. It also warned that adverse weather conditions could disrupt daily life, agriculture, public health, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
