KATHMANDU, April 22: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has resigned from his post amid growing criticisms over his alleged business links and share transactions with a controversial entrepreneur.



Gurung submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Balen Shah on Wednesday, stating that questions raised by the public regarding his financial dealings should be taken seriously.

Announcing his decision through social media, Gurung said integrity and public trust are more important than holding office. He added that stepping down would allow for an impartial investigation without any conflict of interest.


He acknowledged the rising public demand for good governance, transparency and accountability, noting that such expectations should be reflected in leadership as well. Gurung said he chose to resign to ensure that the probe into the allegations remains fair and credible.


The outgoing minister also urged the public and media to uphold truth and integrity, adding that meaningful change requires ethical responsibility from all sides.
