KATHMANDU, May 21: Lawmakers have urged the government through the House of Representatives (HoR) to immediately resolve the border dispute between Humla and Bajura districts.
Speaking during the emergency session of Thursday’s House meeting, lawmaker Jayapati Rokaya called on the government to seek a solution through dialogue and negotiations.
Way to solve India-Nepal border dispute
“The Karnali Highway has been obstructed due to the dispute between Humla and Bajura. The blockage of the national highway has affected patients, students appearing for exams and people traveling for urgent work,” he said, urging the government to reopen the highway through dialogue.
Lawmaker KP Khanal also drew the government’s attention to the alleged mistreatment of a group, including Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Gopi Hamal, amid the dispute in the Ranisingh area along the Humla-Bajura border.
He said attempts to establish a police post in the Saipal area of Himali Rural Municipality to curb the illegal trade of herbs and wildlife products had led to the incident. According to him, smugglers have long been evading taxes and engaging in illegal trade of medicinal herbs and wildlife products in the area.
Khanal also demanded security for locals, protection of medicinal herbs and treatment for those injured in the incident.
Similarly, lawmaker Janak Raj Giri drew the government’s attention to the serious attack carried out on May 18 against Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Mahesh Dhami and Himali Rural Municipality Chief Administrative Officer Kul Bahadur Thapa, among others, in Himali Rural Municipality-3 of Bajura. He urged the government to immediately resolve the border dispute in the area.
