KATHMANDU, July 5: Indian authorities have registered a case against 27 Nepali nationals in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly obtaining Indian identity documents and fraudulently claiming government benefits.
According to Balrampur Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar, the investigation was launched following a complaint from the District Magistrate. The probe found that several residents of Koilabas in Dang district, Nepal, had falsely claimed to be residents of Balapur, Tulsipur and Sheetalapur Rizwan Galli in Balrampur to obtain Aadhaar cards, voter identity cards and other Indian documents, according to Indian media reports.

Police said the accused were found to have their names listed in the voter rolls of both Nepal and India and had availed themselves of various Indian government welfare schemes.
The investigation also found irregularities in official records, including the name of a person who no longer lived in the listed village and another who had died several months ago but remained registered in government databases.
Police have registered the case under relevant legal provisions and launched a detailed investigation. Authorities said all identity documents are being verified with records from the concerned departments, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
