KATHMANDU, June 12: The Foundation Stone for the construction of the Nepal–Bharat Maitri Hospital Building was laid on June 11 in Chankheli Rural Municipality-2 of Humla district in Karnali Province, according to a press release issued by the Embassy of India, Kathmandu.
The hospital project is being developed with financial assistance from the Government of India, amounting to approximately NPR 148 million under its High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) programme. The initiative will be implemented through Chankheli Rural Municipality.
Local officials, including the Chairperson of Chankheli Rural Municipality and other stakeholders, welcomed the project and expressed confidence that the new facility will improve access to healthcare services in the remote Himalayan district.

In a video message, Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal, extended his best wishes to all stakeholders involved in the project. He reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to working closely with Nepal in advancing shared development goals.
According to the embassy, nearly 600 projects have been implemented across all seven provinces of Nepal under the HICDP framework since its inception, covering 74 districts. The Humla hospital project is the third such initiative in the district. Previous support includes the construction of school infrastructure and a study tour for local representatives to India in July 2024.
The embassy stated that the initiative reflects ongoing bilateral cooperation between India and Nepal, particularly in strengthening local infrastructure and supporting development priorities in underserved regions.
