KATHMANDU, June 10: The newly formed Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has started institutional and policy-level work after receiving leadership.
The ministry was created after separating science and technology from the former Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and adding innovation as a new portfolio under the latest government restructuring.
Independent MP Mahabir Pun assumed office as the minister of the newly established ministry on Tuesday.

Secretary Pramila Bajracharya of the Engineering Service had taken charge of the ministry a few days earlier. She said the ministry has begun operations from the former Youth and Sports Ministry office at Singha Durbar.
Minister Pun decided to initiate an Organizational and Management Survey (O&M) after taking office, as the ministry has to begin its work from scratch.
Secretary Bajracharya said they are starting from zero, as stated by the minister, and added that a template for the ministry’s website has already been prepared and submitted to the Department of Information Technology, which will be uploaded after 72 hours due to system processing.
Currently, 24 staff members are working at the ministry, and the number is expected to increase after the new organizational structure is finalized.
Minister Pun has also shifted to Singha Durbar from Wednesday, with arrangements made for an official residence within the ministry.
