JANAKPURDHAM, July 25: The chief of the Underground Water Resources and Irrigation Development Division Office in Karmaiya, Sarlahi, and a mechanical officer were arrested along with bribe money allegedly received from service recipients.
A team from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) arrested Office Chief Anupama Dhakal and Mechanical Officer Tulakant Chaudhary and recovered the bribe money from their possession.
Damage to irrigation amounts to Rs 2.42 billion
According to Prakash Pokharel, the CIAA's Information Officer in Bardibas, acting on a tip-off, the team raided the residence of the office chief in Bagmati Municipality-12, Sarlahi. During the search, officials recovered Rs 750,000 from a sofa where Dhakal was sitting. An additional Rs 71,115 in cash, the source of which could not be explained, was also recovered.
Pokharel said the raid was carried out following a complaint alleging that Dhakal had demanded bribes through Mechanical Officer Chaudhary in exchange for releasing payments after the completion of boring and motor installation work carried out by various water user committees.
Further investigation into the case involving Dhakal and Chaudhary is underway.
