Israeli attacks continue in southern Lebanon despite cease-fire

The National News Agency reported that illumination flares were seen over the Al Jallahiya area in the town of Khiam, and that a very loud explosion was heard in the area. It added that the Israeli military carried out a detonation in the town of Mays Al Jabal.

BEIRUT, April 22: Areas in southern Lebanon came under a series of Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling on Tuesday, targeting the towns of Khiam, Mays Al Jabal and Beit Lif, causing powerful explosions and the destruction of homes, in violation of the truce that began on April 15.



The National News Agency reported that illumination flares were seen over the Al Jallahiya area in the town of Khiam, and that a very loud explosion was heard in the area.

It added that the Israeli military carried out a detonation in the town of Mays Al Jabal.


The Israeli military also blew up and destroyed homes in the town of Beit Lif and cut down ancient trees at the town's entrances.


In a related development, Lebanon's Disaster Risk Management Unit said in its daily report that the total number of displaced people in shelters had reached 118,624, with 30,815 families, while the death toll had risen to 2,454 and the number of injured to 7,658 since March 2.
