KATHMANDU, July 2: Journalist Khem Bhandari of Kanchanpur was arrested on Thursday morning to enforce a Dipayal High Court verdict upholding his conviction in a defamation case. He was arrested from Bhimdatta Municipality-18, according to the District Police Office, Kanchanpur.
Kiran Bista of Kanchanpur had filed the defamation case against Bhandari. On May 15, 2025, the Kanchanpur District Court convicted Bhandari, sentencing him to one month and seven days in prison and imposing a fine of Rs 12,100.

Bhandari appealed the district court's verdict. However, on April 5, 2026, the Mahendranagar bench of the Dipayal High Court upheld the lower court's decision.
Police said the arrest was made to enforce the verdict. Bhandari has been kept in custody and will be produced before the court shortly.
