Journalists in Bagmati to get social security, insurance cover

In its budget for the fiscal year 2026/27, the provincial government has allocated Rs 10 million to support the inclusion of journalists in the Social Security Fund and insurance schemes as part of efforts to uphold press freedom and strengthen the welfare of media professionals.

KATHMANDU, June 18: The Bagmati Provincial Government is preparing to bring journalists working across the province under the Social Security Fund and insurance coverage.



In its budget for the fiscal year 2026/27, the provincial government has allocated Rs 10 million to support the inclusion of journalists in the Social Security Fund and insurance schemes as part of efforts to uphold press freedom and strengthen the welfare of media professionals.

According to Krishna Saru Magar, president of the Bagmati Province chapter of the Nepal Journalists' Federation, more than 2,500 journalists are actively working across the province's 13 districts.


Magar said the budget allocation would help enhance the professional security of journalists and stressed the need for its effective implementation. He also called on all concerned stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of this and other programs aimed at supporting and promoting the media sector.
