KAPILVASTU, June 5: The Kapilvastu Municipality has announced a three-day closure of schools as soaring temperatures continue to affect daily life in the district.
Issuing a public notice, the municipality declared a heat holiday for all schools from June 8 to June 10.
Life in Kapilvastu has been adversely affected by intense heat over the past week. With Saturday and Sunday already designated as public holidays, municipal officials said the additional closure was necessary to protect students from heat-related health risks and to address difficulties in conducting regular teaching and learning activities.

Chief Administrative Officer Binaya Srivastava said the decision was taken considering the potential adverse impact of the extreme heat on children's health and classroom activities.
Mayor Sudip Paudel also stated that the municipality had decided to suspend classes after assessing the growing health risks posed by the prolonged heatwave.
According to Yubaraj Bhusal, head of the municipality’s Education Section, the leave has been granted as emergency leave and will be adjusted against the schools’ monsoon vacation.
Many schools in Kapilvastu operate in buildings with tin roofs, which intensify indoor temperatures. Teachers say students, particularly those in lower grades, have experienced heat-related problems, including fainting spells, due to the extreme weather conditions.
