Kathmandu University confers degrees on 1,527 students in 31st convocation

The graduates comprised 21 PhD/DM/MCh, 93 MPhil and research-based master's, 279 master's, two Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and 1,132 bachelor's degree recipients. The School of Medical Sciences produced the largest number of graduates (504), followed by the School of Engineering (355), Science (207), Arts (161), Management (146), Education (112) and Law (42).

KAVRE, July 3: Kathmandu University (KU) conferred degrees on 1,527 students during the second phase of its 31st convocation on Friday, including 179 international graduates from seven countries.



The graduates comprised 21 PhD/DM/MCh, 93 MPhil and research-based master's, 279 master's, two Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and 1,132 bachelor's degree recipients. The School of Medical Sciences produced the largest number of graduates (504), followed by the School of Engineering (355), Science (207), Arts (161), Management (146), Education (112) and Law (42).


Of the total graduates, 800 were men and 727 women. International students from Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom and the United States accounted for 11.72 percent of the graduating class.

The university also awarded degrees for the first time to 26 students under its Bachelor of Technology in Artificial Intelligence programme, three in Doctor Medicinae in Neonatology, and four in Master of Science in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.


With the completion of the ceremony, the total number of KU graduates has reached 51,567, including 6,039 international students.


The convocation was chaired by Education, Science and Technology Minister Sasmit Pokharel, who also serves as the university's Pro-Chancellor. Addressing graduates, Pokharel urged them not to be overly anxious about their future, noting that success comes at different times for different people, and encouraged them to use the knowledge gained at the university to contribute to society.


Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rishikesh Wagle said he was proud to welcome a former KU graduate back as the university's Pro-Chancellor. He also called for more student-friendly visa policies, saying easier visa procedures are essential to establish Nepal as an international education destination.


The ceremony's chief guest, Prof. Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice-Chancellor of India's Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute, encouraged graduates to carry Nepal's knowledge and KU's academic values wherever their careers take them.
