KATHMANDU, April 18: The Mustang Customs Office has collected revenue of around Rs 5.73 billion as of mid-April of the current fiscal year.
According to the customs office that was opened for official cross border bilateral trade since mid-September, facilitated the import of goods worth Rs 12.22 billion and exports totaling Rs 205.5 million in seven months of operation of the Korala border.
Diversifying Government Revenue
As per the government records, the customs point provided border clearance to 1,818 containers carrying imported goods and 137 containers of exported goods. Over the review period, the customs point facilitated imports of 2,347 electric vehicles.
The Korala checkpoint emerged as a key alternative trade route after major disruptions at other land trade routes connecting China. Floods in Rasuwagadhi in late June and landslides at Tatopani in July had forced the closure of those crossings, prompting increased reliance on Korala for trade.
