KATHMANDU, June 28: The monsoon has now spread across all areas of Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, parts of Gandaki Province, and the eastern region of Lumbini Province. The rest of the country is currently under the partial influence of westerly and local winds.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon is likely to expand across the remaining parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as all of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, within the next three to four days. At present, the Tarai region of Sudurpashchim remains mostly clear, while the rest of the country is experiencing partly cloudy conditions. Light rain is occurring at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
This afternoon, skies are expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. A few places in the hilly and mountainous regions are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, with chances of snowfall at higher elevations. Some places in the Tarai may also experience moderate rain with thunder and lightning.
The basics of braces
The department has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two locations in both the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi Province. Gusty winds are also likely in parts of the Koshi Tarai and Madhesh Province.
Tonight, generally cloudy conditions are expected to continue nationwide. Many places in Koshi Province, along with a few locations in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces and isolated places in the high mountains, may receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning, along with snowfall in higher elevations.
Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is also likely at a few places in the hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces and at isolated locations in the mountainous areas.
In the Tarai, moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at a few places in Madhesh Province and the Tarai districts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast at a few places in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi Province, while one or two places in Madhesh Province may also experience heavy rainfall.
Strong winds are likely in parts of the Tarai across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as at a few locations in Madhesh Province.
The department has urged people living in areas forecast to receive heavy rainfall or strong winds to take necessary precautions.
