KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Vehicles movement through Prithvi Highway is likely to resume in a few days with the new track opening at KrishnabAccordion of the highway, which sank after the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods, has reached its final stage.
Sajana Adhikari, chief of the Nagdhunga-Mugling Road Project, informed that the new track has been opened and the ‘grade down’ work of the road has reached the final stage. According to her, the water drainage system is being built, which will be followed by the graveling of the road.
Krishnabhir road sinks, Kathmandu-Muglin highway fully blocked
Adhikari said the road will be opened for vehicle movement in the next one week. The newly built section is a temporary one opened at the upper segment of the existing road alignment.
A landslide occurred at Krishnabhir on the morning of August 30. Since then, one of Nepal’s major lifeline roads has remained blocked, effectively cutting Kathmandu off from much of the country. The landslide site is around 10 kilometers from Malekhu.
The blockade at the Prithvi Highway has fuelled up price hikes of essentials in the capital. It has also disrupted the supply of cooking gas resulting in the acute shortage of the kitchen essential.
