‘Lalibazar’ becomes highest-grossing movie with Rs 90 million earnings

KATHMANDU, June 10: Nepali film ‘Lalibazar’ has crossed the Rs 90 million mark at the domestic box office, becoming the highest-grossing Nepali film of fiscal year 2025/26 so far.



Released on May 8, the film has emerged as a blockbuster, posting strong earnings across theatres nationwide.

According to data from the Film Development Board’s “Cinepa@BoxOffice” system, the film had collected Rs 87.8 million in gross earnings by June 7, with 298,227 tickets sold during the period. With continued screenings, its total earnings have now surpassed Rs 90 million.


The film features Swastima Khadka in the lead role, alongside Rabindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Shrestha, Abhaya Baral, Bishal Devkota and Prashamsa Subedi.


Debutants Devkota and Subedi have received positive audience response for their performances. Devkota, who worked in theatre for nearly nine years before entering films, said the success feels like a reward for years of preparation.


He plays ‘Narayan’, a character that highlights the importance of education and has been widely appreciated by viewers.


Directed by Yam Thapa under the banner of Shatkon Arts, the film has Pradip Bhattarai as executive producer and screenplay writer, while Max Dipesh Khati is the producer.
