‘Lalibazar’ marks 51-day theatrical milestone, heads toward Rs 100 million club

KATHMANDU, June 27: Nepali film ‘Lalibazar’ has completed 51 days in theatres, adding another milestone to its successful box office journey since its release on May 8.



Produced under the banner of Shatkon Arts, the film achieved the feat at multiple theatres across the country, including QFX outlets in Bhaktapur, Civil Mall and City Square, Big Movies Kamalpokhari, CDC Cinemas Sundhara, CK Cinemas Sitapaila, Ranjana Cineplex New Road, Friends Cinemas in Butwal and Ilam, and Cine Royal in Nepalgunj.

“Like our previous films produced by Shatkon Arts, we have received immense love from audiences this time as well. We do not have enough words to express our gratitude,” Bhattarai said.


He said the film’s successful run in Nepal has paved the way for its international release. “‘Lalibazar’ is now being screened in several countries. It is currently running in different European countries and will gradually be released in Japan, Australia and the United States,” he said.


Released this year, ‘Lalibazar’ has emerged as one of the commercially successful Nepali films. The film has already collected more than Rs 90 million in gross revenue at the domestic box office and is approaching the Rs 100 million mark.


Directed by Yam Thapa, the film features Swastima Khadka, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Kumar Shrestha, Abhaya Baral, Prem Pandey, Asha Poudel, Govinda Sunar and Abha Aryal, among others.


The film also marks the acting debut of Bishal Devkota and Prashamsa Subedi. Devkota is an active theatre artist, while Subedi represents the emerging Gen-Z generation of actors.


Shatkon Arts has previously produced successful films including ‘Talkjung vs Tulke,’ ‘Jatra,’ ‘Jatrai Jatra,’ ‘Mahapurush’ and ‘Mahajatra.’
