KATHMANDU, June 5: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane held an unannounced meeting with Sergio Gor, the US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, in New Delhi on Thursday evening.
The meeting took place during Lamichhane’s five-day political visit to India, which began on June 1 at the invitation of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Notably, the engagement with the US envoy did not feature in Lamichhane’s publicly released itinerary.
FinMin Wagle holds meeting with Trump’s Special Envoy Gor
Gor, a close confidant of US President Donald J. Trump, is no stranger to the RSP leadership. He visited Nepal in April and held discussions with Lamichhane and other senior party leaders as part of a broader political outreach. During that visit, Gor had also sought a meeting with Prime Minister Balendra Shah. However, the request was not accommodated in line with the prime minister's policy on diplomatic engagements.
Before meeting the US envoy, he held talks with several senior Indian leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Lamichhane’s India visit has drawn considerable political and diplomatic attention.
Lamichhane is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on Friday.
