KATHMANDU, July 12: Landless families staying at the Radhaswami Holding Centre in Kirtipur have been relocated to a holding centre in Kharipati after floodwaters inundated the facility.
The government transferred 31 landless families from the Kirtipur holding centre following flooding at the site.
Applications of 1.2 million landless people collected
Earlier, the Kathmandu District Administration Office had issued a notice on June 23, directing residents to vacate the holding centre by June 26. The notice stated that each family would receive Rs 25,000 to arrange alternative accommodation on their own.
The government had previously cleared settlements along riverbanks in Kathmandu using bulldozers. At the time, it had assured displaced families that they would be provided temporary shelter for 15 days and permanent housing within 60 days.
