KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded a US$200,000 Major Catastrophe Grant to support flood relief and recovery efforts in Nepal.
According to a press release issued by LCIF on Wednesday, Lions in Nepal will use the grant to provide emergency assistance to communities affected by flash floods that killed more than 1,000 people and left thousands missing.

The assistance will include food packages, drinking water, blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene and sanitation kits, clothing, first-aid and medical supplies, and temporary shelters. The grant will also support rescue operations, debris and mud clearance, and short-term care and rehabilitation for children who have lost their parents or other family members.
Lions in Nepal have already raised US$67,000, while Lions from other countries are also contributing to the relief effort.
LCIF Chairperson A.P. Singh said the Lions were committed not only to providing immediate emergency assistance but also to supporting affected communities through the recovery process.
The Foundation said its disaster relief grants support communities through different phases of a disaster, from immediate relief to long-term recovery. Since July 1, 2026, LCIF has awarded more than US$1.3 million in disaster-related grants worldwide.
