KATHMANDU, Sept 17: The Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has provided a US$200,000 Major Catastrophe Grant to support emergency relief and recovery efforts in Nepal following devastating flash floods that have killed more than 1,000 people and left thousands missing.
According to LCIF, the grant will fund food packages, drinking water, blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene and sanitation kits, clothing, first-aid and medical supplies, and temporary shelters for affected communities. Lions will also support rescue operations, debris clearance and short-term care and rehabilitation for children who lost parents or other family members in the disaster.

The foundation said the floods, triggered by the collapse of glacial ice and rock near the Nepal-China border, destroyed homes, roads, schools, bridges and other infrastructure.
In addition to the grant, Lions across Nepal have raised US$67,000 for relief efforts, while Lions in other countries are also providing financial support, according to LCIF.
LCIF Chairperson A.P. Singh said Lions would remain engaged in relief and recovery efforts as affected communities rebuild.
Since July 1, 2026, LCIF has awarded more than US$1.3 million in disaster relief funding to Lions in regions affected by natural disasters worldwide.
