KATHMANDU, July 12: Rastriya Mukti Party Nepal Chair and former Deputy Prime Minister Rajendra Mahato has expressed dissatisfaction with the government's performance during its first 100 days, warning it to change course before public patience runs out.

In a public statement issued on Sunday, Mahato accused the government of continuing "old authoritarian thinking" instead of embracing justice, inclusion and sensitivity. He urged the government to immediately correct what he described as its insensitive conduct, exclusionary appointments and authoritarian style of governance.

According to Mahato, the recent electoral mandate was not merely for a change of government but reflected decades of public frustration, suffering and demands for change. While acknowledging that all expectations could not be fulfilled within 100 days, he said the government's direction had shown "the smell of old authoritarianism" rather than a new approach.

He accused the government of using bulldozers to clear poor settlements, treating people harshly in border areas, and attempting to institutionalize discrimination under the guise of meritocracy by ignoring the principle of proportional inclusion. He also alleged that the budget promoted crony capitalism while neglecting the interests of farmers, youth, women and provincial governments. He described the taxation of education and healthcare as anti-people.

Mahato further cited the self-immolation of Ganesh Nepali as an example of the state's lack of humanity, alleging that the government had prioritized legal procedures over compassion.

On constitutional amendment, Mahato claimed the government was attempting to weaken federalism. He recalled that Prime Minister Balendra Shah had paid tribute to Madhesh movement martyr Ramesh Mahato and pledged to build a "strong federal system" during the election campaign, questioning whether those commitments had merely been electoral promises.

He stressed that federalism was achieved through the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs and should be strengthened rather than weakened. Warning that any betrayal of public trust would face resistance, he said the historical demands of the Madheshi, Tharu, Limbuwan, Magarat-Khasan, Dalit, Muslim and other marginalized communities must be addressed.

The statement reiterated the party's demands for state restructuring into 10+1 provinces and 24 autonomous regions, equitable sharing of central government revenue, constitutional guarantees of equal opportunity, government services in provincial languages, proportional inclusion, implementation of the eight-point agreement signed on February 26, 2008, withdrawal of cases against protestors, and publication of the Lal Commission report.

Mahato also called for a new national renaissance based on civilization, self-governance and prosperity, urging all democratic, identity-based and pro-change political forces to unite under a common movement.
