KATHMANDU, Nov 6:  CPN (Maoist Center) has decided to hold a joint meeting with other left parties on November 6 to advance plans for party merger despite reservation from party’s senior leader Janardan Sharma, who was absent in today’s Secretariat meeting.

Sharma had also walked out of Saturday’s meeting after presenting his views on the party’s new mandate and organizational structure. However, he left before hearing a response from party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who later described Sharma’s conduct as “chaotic.”

Sharma had sought attention of the party to rethink unifying the party with the CPN (Unified Socialist) led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, who is reportedly willing to proceed with the merger even at the risk of a split within his own party.

The senior leader has publicly warned that any unity process lacking ideological clarity, a review of past experiences, and proper organizational groundwork could weaken rather than strengthen the left movement.

Party Spokesperson Agni Sapkota said the upcoming November 6 meeting will include leaders of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and other groups involved in the ongoing left unity efforts. “It has been decided to hold a meeting with the parties coming together,” Sapkota told reporters after the meeting.

He added that the Secretariat also discussed organizational matters following recent mergers. “Before that, policy-level and ideological discussions were held on adjustment issues. After the merger, a new party will need to be registered,” Sapkota said.
