I came to realize that learning is not only about studying in the classrooms, but also about traveling and making memories.

Last month, our school organized an educational visit to Gorkha and Bandipur. We, the students of grade five, had loads of fun. This was my first-ever visit without my parents, so I was very excited and nervous at the same time. My health was not very good but still my parents decided to let me go. I am writing this article to share key observations, learning and takeaways from the tour, and all the memories which I will never forget.

Day one

On December 12th, 2025, our school took us on an excursion to Gorkha and Bandipur. We reached school at 5 am and went to find our respective buses. We started our ride to Gorkha which was a 5-hour ride. After we reached our destination, we went to our hotel and settled in. Then, we left our luggage and went to visit Gorkha museum and Prithivi Narayan Shah’s Durbar. We learned a lot about Gorkha, Prithivi Narayan Shah and the history of Nepal’s unification. At night, we enjoyed a bonfire and dancing. Then we went to our hotel room and slept.

The Originality of Bandipur

The Gorkha visit was a beautiful experience. After Gorkha, we headed to Bandipur after having breakfast. After a two-hour ride, we reached Bandipur. It was a beautiful place and after getting settled into our respective hotels, we had a session on mapping. During the session we learned that Bandipur is situated at an altitude of 1,030 meters above sea level and Gorkha at 1,522m and that both Bandipur and Gorkha fall in Gandaki Province. After our interesting mapping session, we headed to a silkworm farm where we learned about a silkworm’s life process and then headed to Bandipur bazaar, which is famed for Newari people and their culture. Then we went back to our hotel and had a fun barbecue with our teachers and friends. We danced and sang our hearts out there and had lots of fun.

Day three

After waking up from an exhausted night, we went for a hike. Our hike was to Thanamai temple. At Thanamai temple, we did some cleaning in the surroundings and came back to our hotel from the tiring hike. We then had our breakfast, took our luggage and said goodbye to Bandipur and started our journey back to Kathmandu! Our return journey was very lengthy as we got stuck in a traffic jam for a few hours due to road construction works so we reached our school late at night. Our parents came to pick us up as it was close to midnight.

What I learnt

Our journey to Gorkha and Bandipur is something I will never forget. We learnt about Gorkha and Bandipur’s beauty and history. I came to realize that learning is not only about studying in the classrooms, but also about traveling and making memories. Many of us were going out on such a visit without our close family members yet we felt safe as the school took great care of us. I would like to say a big thank you to our school for planning this trip and express my gratitude to our teachers and my in-charge for this wonderful learning experience. Thank you.
