NAC ground equipment operator arrested with currencies worth Rs 5.47 million at TIA

A ground equipment operator of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has been arrested on charges of smuggling Nepali and foreign currency worth Rs 5.47 million.

KATHMANDU, June 2: A ground equipment operator of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has been arrested on charges of smuggling Nepali and foreign currency worth Rs 5.47 million.



Kamal Narayan Biswas, a native of Sunsari Gadhi Rural Municipality-1 and currently residing in Banasthali, Kathmandu, was arrested by the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Security Office. Biswas was supposed to travel abroad on a visit visa carrying the aforementioned amount of cash from the TIA.

Biswas has been working as a ground equipment operator at the TIA under the NAC for 16 years.


The TIA based-security office of Nepal Police arrested him while he was departing for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on a visit visa on a Batik Air flight scheduled at 8:30 PM on Monday. He was found carrying currencies of various countries in an iron container in his luggage.


According to the police, he has traveled abroad 26 times so far. Police recovered Nepali, US dollar, Omani, Pakistani, Malaysian, Sri Lankan, Japanese, and African currencies from his possession.
