KATHMANDU, April 27: The central working committee of the Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to appoint Bhishmaraj Angdembe as the Parliamentary Party (PP) leader.
The decision was taken unanimously during the committee meeting and is set to be formally endorsed by an upcoming parliamentary party meeting.
This marks the first time since the 2008 Constituent Assembly elections that the party has chosen its parliamentary leader unanimously.

Angdembe is a Proportional Representation (PR) lawmaker. Initially, Arjun Narsingh KC and Mohan Acharya were also considered key contenders for the position. However, voices within the party had been calling for Angdembe’s selection to send a message of unity.
He was elected Joint General Secretary from the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction during the party’s 14th general convention. However, he did not participate in the special convention that elected Gagan Thapa as party president.
Despite this, Angdembe has stated publicly that he does not wish to be associated with any faction and is willing to work in line with President Thapa’s leadership spirit.
Senior leaders including Vice President Bishwo Prakash Sharma had also advocated for Angdembe’s leadership to strengthen internal unity.
Sources say Angdembe has secured majority support within the 38-member parliamentary party, with backing from both Sher Bahadur Deuba and Shekhar Koirala factions.
