KATHMANDU, April 24 : Pradip Paudel, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC), has raised serious concerns over the sudden end of the parliamentary session within 24 hours of its announcement.
Taking to social media on Friday, Paudel said the move has sparked significant questions. He argued that the decision has led to suspicions about whether a government with a strong majority is attempting to bypass Parliament in policymaking by resorting to ordinances instead of proceeding transparently with parliamentary confidence.
“Ending the parliamentary session within 24 hours of its announcement has raised serious questions,” he wrote. “It creates suspicion as to whether a government with a strong majority is trying to take the ordinance route rather than moving forward transparently by taking Parliament into confidence on policy matters.”

He also questioned why the government’s political confidence appears weak despite having favorable parliamentary arithmetic and a supportive political environment.
Stressing that transparency in procedures and processes is vital in a democracy, Paudel said seeking outcomes by bypassing due process undermines both institutional norms and democratic values.
He urged the government to uphold the dignity of elected institutions and move forward in a transparent manner by taking Parliament fully into confidence.
