KATHMANDU, May 21: Nepali Congress Chief Whip Nishcal Rai has warned against displaying “numerical arrogance” in Parliament.
Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), Rai also demanded the presence of Prime Minister Balendra Shah in the House.
He said the opposition is trying to make the government accountable, but the government and the Speaker have failed to respond. “In recent meetings, another opposition party has been holding placards demanding accountability, but the Speaker has termed it undisciplined,” he said.

Rai further said the Prime Minister, despite holding office with numerical strength, has not appeared in Parliament, which he described as being just a minute’s walk away.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the Speaker’s remarks on Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harka Raj Rai Sampang’s conduct and referred to the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s past actions.
Rai said the government has failed to recognize the role of the opposition in Parliament and must act within constitutional limits to uphold parliamentary dignity.
He further accused the government of interfering in the legislature, executive and judiciary under the pretext of breaking traditions.
Rai said opposition parties have repeatedly raised issues in recent sessions, including demands for government responses during policy and programme discussions, but have not received support from the Speaker.
He added that what the opposition does today was once done by ruling parties in the past, and stressed that the Speaker must ensure parliamentary dignity.
