KATHMANDU, June 14: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has called on the party leadership to immediately resolve internal conflicts, differences in working style, and uncertainty surrounding the party’s general convention.

Speaking at a gathering organized by the non-establishment faction in Biratnagar on Sunday, Sitaula urged leaders to show the courage to resolve disputes and put an end to what he described as unnecessary internal drama.

He expressed dissatisfaction over delays in the party’s general convention process and ongoing internal disagreements. Targeting party president Thapa, he said, “Do not be afraid of disputes. Everything can be settled in just 10 minutes. That courage must come from within you. You have the power to write and erase decisions—now take a unified decision and move forward.”

Recalling past general conventions from the ninth to the fourteenth, he suggested that the upcoming convention should be conducted in line with established precedents. He also questioned the party leadership and office bearers, stressing that any decisions should be made on time and in a transparent manner.

Sitaula strongly criticized the treatment of fellow party members, calling it unacceptable and inhumane.

“We are democrats; we must have humanity. If such behavior is not shown even to opponents, then what was done to our own colleagues is condemnable,” he said. “We believe even the worst offenders should be dealt with through due legal process, but what happened inside the party recently was unusual.”

Commenting on the current political situation, Sitaula said Nepal had become a country gripped by fear. He alleged that recent actions by the President and the Prime Minister, which he said went against the spirit of the Constitution, had created an atmosphere of uncertainty and intimidation.

“The President acted under pressure, dissolving the House of Representatives during a movement and appointing a Prime Minister. The Constitution does not envision such actions,” he said. “The Nepali Congress must put an end to this cycle of fear and intimidation.”

Emphasizing that the fundamental structure of the Constitution cannot be altered, Sitaula said it was the responsibility of the NC to counter the narratives being spread by those in power. He added that a party divided within cannot ease public fear and urged leadership to unify the organization and prioritize collective decisions over personal interests.
