KATHMANDU, April 18: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has called for party unity and renewal following a verdict by the Supreme Court of Nepal on the party’s official status.
In a statement issued on Saturday, a day after the court’s ruling, Thapa said the decision had created an environment for all factions to come together and work towards strengthening the party.
Great Leadership: A Road Less Traveled
He urged leaders and cadres not to interpret the verdict as a win or loss. “The Supreme Court’s decision provides an opportunity for all members to unite and move forward on a shared path to rebuild and strengthen the party,” he said, adding that the issue concerns due process and democratic practice rather than victory or defeat.
Thapa appealed to party members and supporters at home and abroad to act responsibly and stand for unity. Acknowledging his role, he said the primary responsibility for unifying the party rests with him and pledged to take active steps in that direction.
Referring to the party’s roadmap, Thapa noted that preparations for the 15th General Convention are already underway and urged leaders to use the process as an opportunity to reform and consolidate the organisation.
He also called for a collective effort to honour the contributions of senior leaders while building a party capable of addressing the aspirations of the younger generation and contributing to a prosperous Nepal.
