KATHMANDU, May 15: The National Federation of the Deaf Nepal (NDFN) has welcomed the introduction of sign language interpretation in the live telecast of Federal Parliament sessions beginning May 11. The Federation has also urged all concerned stakeholders to extend further support to enhance the deaf community’s access to information and communication.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the NDFN stated that the use of sign language interpretation during live broadcasts of parliamentary sessions is expected to improve the deaf community’s access to information related to parliamentary proceedings, including the government’s policies and programmes, budget, lawmaking process, and discussions on issues of national and contemporary importance.

The federation recalled that the inclusion of sign language interpretation in such broadcasts had long been one of its key demands. NDFN also thanked the Speaker of the House of Representatives for initiating the service and congratulated the entire deaf community on the occasion.
