Nearly 2,000 drivers penalized in Kathmandu; collecting over Rs 541,000 in revenue

According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, 127 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, while 142 were found operating ride-sharing services in violation of regulations.

KATHMANDU, May 31: Traffic police penalized 1,994 drivers across the Kathmandu Valley over the past 24 hours for violating traffic rules, collecting Rs 541,502 in revenue for the state treasury.



According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, 127 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, while 142 were found operating ride-sharing services in violation of regulations. Another 149 motorists were penalized for running red lights and 103 for speeding.

Traffic police also took action against 158 drivers for failing to maintain lane discipline, 130 for honking in prohibited areas, 128 for parking on footpaths, and 95 for driving on one-way roads.


The largest share of offenders—962 drivers—were booked for various other traffic violations, the office said.
