KATHMANDU, Sept 20: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has returned home after a three-day official visit to India.
Nepal, Uzbekistan enter formal diplomatic ties
Wagle left for New Delhi last Thursday leading a six-member delegation, following an invitation from the Indian government. During the visit, he held talks with two senior Indian ministers and took part in diplomatic, social, business and academic events.
Wagle said he thanked the Indian government for its help with rescue and relief efforts following the Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa. Nepal also proposed further Indian support and cooperation for reconstruction, he said.
The meetings were productive in discussing new ways to advance political, economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, according to Wagle.
He met Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday. On Friday, he attended a high-level diplomatic dialogue hosted by former foreign secretary Shyam Saran as chief guest and held talks with External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar. That evening, he attended a gathering hosted by Jawed Ashraf, chairman of the India Trade Promotion Organisation.
Wagle also met a delegation of Nepalis living in India on Friday. On Saturday, he attended a Constitution Day programme at the Nepali embassy, spoke at a gathering of leading business groups organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, and joined an academic discussion on development economics hosted by the Delhi School of Economics.
