KATHMANDU, May 29: The 19th Republic Day 2026 was celebrated with grandeur at Tundikhel in Kathmandu on Friday, marking the historic establishment of Nepal’s republican system.
The special ceremony was held under the chief guestship of President Ram Chandra Paudel, with the presence of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal, ministers, and other high-ranking state officials.

President Paudel was accorded a guard of honour by a contingent of the Nepali Army. He also addressed the ceremony.
The event also featured a helicopter flypast displaying a banner reading “Republic Day 2026,” along with a flower shower from the air.
The national flag was hoisted, and pigeons were released as symbols of peace, prosperity, and national unity.
To add grandeur to the occasion, joint march-past displays were presented by the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal, and Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Force.
Cultural tableaux showcasing Nepal’s diverse arts, traditions, and heritage were also performed by various local levels across the Kathmandu Valley.
