KATHMANDU, Dec 18: The French Embassy in Nepal and Alliance française Kathmandou on Wednesday launched the Nepali translation of Annapurna Premier 8000, written by Maurice Herzog.
The event was attended by Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya, mountaineer and Annapurna 75th anniversary goodwill ambassador Purnima Shrestha, Nepal Mountaineering Association President Phur Gelje Sherpa, French Ambassador to Nepal Virginie Corteval, and other officials and stakeholders.

According to a press release issued by the French Embassy in Kathmandu, the Nepali edition was financed by the French Embassy and published by Fine Print. The book recounts the historic 1950 Franco-Nepali expedition led by Herzog that achieved the first ascent of Annapurna, the world’s first climbed peak above 8,000 metres.
The launch event also honoured the late Sonam Walung Sherpa, the first Nepali to summit Annapurna in 1977, with posthumous recognition, the press release stated.
