KATHMANDU, July 14: The Nepal Police has said there is no legal provision making the traffic police eligible to receive special allowance or benefits for charging fines for traffic violation.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the Nepal Police has made it clear that the entire revenue from the traffic fines is directly deposited in the government's account.

The police stated that news reports lacking facts and official verification negatively affect the image of public institutions, erode public trust in such organisations and make administrative processes unnecessarily controversial.

“There is no legal provision for traffic police to be entitled to any additional benefits for collecting fines from the violations of traffic rules," the statement reads.

The police have urged media and social sites users to verify any information through official channels before disseminating it from the respective media or from the social platforms.
