KATHMANDU, July 19: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has accused the government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah of betraying victims of loan sharking once again.
Addressing an interaction program organized by the UML Parliamentary Department on Sunday, Oli alleged that the government was pushing the country’s struggling economy into a deeper crisis while attempting to conceal its poor state.
He said the government had failed to resolve the problems of loan-sharking victims and was instead resorting to deception and cover-ups.
“The government has once again betrayed the victims of loan sharking,” Oli said. “Instead of acknowledging the economy is sinking, they are pushing it further down. Prices and taxes have risen sharply, but those in power continue to distort the truth.”

Criticizing the government’s failure to generate employment, Oli said increasing numbers of young people were being forced to seek jobs abroad despite official claims to the contrary.
“We were accused of sending people abroad because we failed to create jobs. But the reality is that even more youths are leaving the country this year than last,” he said. “Those in government are twisting facts against the public interest.”
Oli also claimed there had been a deliberate effort to erode the UML’s popularity.
“Our party was the most popular in Nepal, but efforts were made to make it unpopular. Our support has been pushed down significantly, and we now have to rebuild it by returning to the people,” he said.
He further alleged that the stock market had lost Rs 542 billion during the tenure of the Balen-led government.
“What is the condition of the stock market now? As much as Rs 542 billion has disappeared from the market,” Oli claimed. “We are living in a fictional world where huge amounts of capital are vanishing behind paper currency and digital transactions.”
Recalling Nepal’s political transition, Oli said the Maoists were brought into the peace process and the monarchy was abolished through democratic and peaceful means.
He also urged UML lawmakers to rely on study and research rather than “spoon-feeding” while raising public concerns in Parliament, saying facts and truth were a greater source of strength than numerical superiority.
