KATHMANDU, June 4: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has questioned the rise of new political parties, saying no “planted” party should emerge under the disguise of new political forces.

Inaugurating a party workshop on “Membership Renewal and Expansion Motivation” in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Oli said new parties are natural in a democracy but must be driven by clear ideology and principles.

Citing established democracies, he said long-standing parties continue to dominate politics in countries such as the United States, India and China, arguing that political systems are shaped by established ideological forces.

“Is a new party formed every day or in every election? Established parties are excluded, and inexperienced people are given responsibility to run the country. Does this happen anywhere in the world?” he asked.

Oli said new parties are acceptable when required, but insisted they must emerge from ideology. “No ‘planted’ party should be created in the name of new parties. Parties must be born from ideas,” he said.

He also questioned the credibility of the March 5 parliamentary elections, alleging they were not free and fair, and termed the then Sushila Karki-led interim government "unconstitutional", claiming the outcome was predetermined.

On the same occasion, Oli also alleged that the September 8 and 9 events were pre-planned and reflected a “conspiracy-driven plot", a view he said was echoed in a National Human Rights Commission report.

“Some call it a movement and a revolution. Those who carried it out naturally call it a revolution,” he said, adding that efforts were made to destabilise his government through organised training, including “how to set fires and make petrol bombs.”

Calling the current government a “chaotic rule,” he urged it not to act in haste or "mania", saying political systems such as the Rana regime, Panchayat system and monarchy had all collapsed.

He said the September 8 and 9 incidents were an attack on nationalism and patriotism.
