KATHMANDU, June 3: CPN-UML Chair K P Sharma Oli has announced that he will not step down from party leadership even as calls grow for his resignation.
Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Thursday, Oli said he was not elected as party chair to quit during difficult situations and stressed that he will continue leading the party until it reaches success.
“There was no intention of becoming chair just to step aside when difficulties arise or to grab opportunities when things are easy,” he said.

Oli clarified that he will retire only after leading the party to success and according to party statutes and procedures.
“Do not have doubts that I will leave midway and abandon the party,” he said, adding that he will continue working under the party’s established rules before taking a formal retirement when the time comes.
He also noted that his political activity had slowed due to personal losses, arrest, and surgery in the past but said he will now intensify meetings with party leaders.
Oli reaffirmed his commitment to leading the party and addressing national challenges.
