KATHMANDU, July 1: The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has urged that only doctors registered with the Nepal Medical Council (NMC) be allowed to practice modern medicine.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the association warned that medical practice and prescription of medicines by unqualified individuals could pose serious risks to public health. It said healthcare services should be provided only by doctors who hold recognized medical degrees and are legally registered.

The NMA also cited Section 27(1) of the Nepal Medical Council Act, 1964, which prohibits anyone from using a degree, diploma, certificate, license or professional title related to modern medicine that they have not legitimately obtained for the purpose of practicing medicine.
Calling for strict adherence to legal standards, the association urged all concerned to ensure that modern medical services are delivered only by qualified and legally authorized medical practitioners to safeguard public health.
