KATHMANDU, July 23: Police in Saptari have seized more than 3.3 tonnes of marijuana being transported illegally in the district.
According to police, a total of 3,332.460 kilograms of marijuana was recovered from three vehicles in Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality-5 following a tip-off that the contraband was being smuggled from Hanumannagar toward Rampur Malhaniya.

The drivers of all three vehicles fled the scene and remain at large, while the vehicles have been taken into police custody.
Police said 523.640 kg of marijuana packed in 19 sacks was recovered from a Scorpio (registration: Ba Pra 01-025 Cha 0436).
Another 1,668.110 kg, packed in 48 sacks, was seized from a pickup truck (registration: Pra 1-04-001 Cha 1507).
A further 1,170.710 kg of marijuana stored in 33 sacks was recovered from another pickup truck (registration: Ba Pra 01-029 Cha 9586).
Police said an investigation is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the smuggling operation.
