Parliamentary panel clears way for hearing of election commissioner nominees

A meeting of the joint parliamentary committee on Thursday resolved to begin the hearing process for Man Bahadur Karki, who has been nominated as chief election commissioner, and Rajiv Subba and Guru Prasad Wagle, who have been nominated as election commissioners.

KATHMANDU, July 9: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has decided to move forward with the confirmation hearings of the nominees for chief election commissioner and election commissioners.



A meeting of the joint parliamentary committee on Thursday resolved to begin the hearing process for Man Bahadur Karki, who has been nominated as chief election commissioner, and Rajiv Subba and Guru Prasad Wagle, who have been nominated as election commissioners.

The committee, chaired by Bodh Narayan Shrestha, also decided to issue a public notice on Friday inviting complaints or objections against the nominees.


The panel is scheduled to reconvene on July 20 to begin the hearings after reviewing any complaints received.


The nominees were recommended by the Constitutional Council at its July 3 meeting chaired by Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
