KATHMANDU, June 2: The government has clarified the controversial remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah on the Nepal–India border during a parliamentary session a few days ago.
Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel stated that Prime Minister Shah did not say in Parliament that Nepal had encroached upon Indian territory, but had only expressed surprise over the issue.
Speaking to journalists after a Cabinet meeting, Pokharel urged reporters to listen again to the Prime Minister’s statement. “When discussing the border dispute, when it was mentioned by the other side that Nepal had also encroached upon Indian land, the Prime Minister said he was surprised,” he said, adding, “Please listen again to the Prime Minister’s statement in Parliament on the border issue.”
