Police escort Durga Prasai home after stopping airport press conference

According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, Prasai was preparing to address the media inside the airport premises when police intervened. Citing security and operational concerns, officers stopped the event and transported him home in a police vehicle.

KATHMANDU, July 12: Police escorted medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai to his residence in Bhaktapur after preventing him from holding a press conference at Tribhuvan International Airport.



According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, Prasai was preparing to address the media inside the airport premises when police intervened. Citing security and operational concerns, officers stopped the event and transported him home in a police vehicle.


Police said press conferences and other public gatherings are not permitted within the airport premises without prior approval because of the area's sensitive nature, and that the action was taken as part of routine security measures.

After reaching his residence, Prasai said he had been denied the opportunity to speak at the airport and was taken directly home by police.


Prasai had planned to issue a statement demanding justice over the self-immolation case involving Ganesh Nepali. Police said no untoward incident occurred following the intervention.
