KATHMANDU, July 26: Police have launched an investigation into senior IVF specialist Dr Nutan Sharma after allegations that eggs were extracted from a 17-year-old girl at the IVF Center of B&B Hospital in Gwarko, Lalitpur.
The investigation began after the victim’s family filed a complaint with the Lalitpur District Police Range on July 17. Based on the complaint, police arrested an intermediary, Radhika Gotame, 21, originally from Lamjung and currently residing in Imadol, Lalitpur. She was later released on bail following instructions from the District Government Attorney’s Office, but the investigation is ongoing, police said.

According to investigators, an examination of Gotame’s mobile phone revealed financial transactions between her and Dr Sharma. Preliminary findings show that Dr Sharma transferred Rs 50,000 twice to Gotame through mobile banking in December 2025.
The teenage victim told police that one of her friends convinced her that “nothing would happen” if she donated her eggs and that she would be paid. She said the friend introduced her to Gotame, who then took her to B&B Hospital’s IVF Center.
According to the victim, she was first given hormone injections, and her eggs were extracted about a week later. She said she later developed health complications and was treated at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj after informing her family.
