KATHMANDU, May 19 : Newly appointed Chief Justice Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma took the oath of office and secrecy from the President during a special ceremony held at the Presidential Residence, Shital Niwas, on Tuesday evening.
Earlier in the day, the Parliamentary Hearing Committee had unanimously endorsed Sharma’s nomination following a recommendation by the Constitutional Council.

Soon after the committee’s approval, the President formally appointed him as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by the Vice President, Prime Minister, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chairperson of the National Assembly, cabinet ministers, heads of constitutional bodies, and senior government officials.
Following the ceremony, Chief Justice Sharma was scheduled to assume office at the Supreme Court.
The Constitutional Council had recommended Sharma for the post of Chief Justice on May 7. Sharma, who has been serving as a Supreme Court justice since April 2019, will now lead Nepal’s judiciary for the next six years.
