KATHMANDU, June 24: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has accused the state of using all three organs of government to carry out a “planned political attack” against him and his party in the past.
Addressing the RSP’s First National General Convention on Wednesday, Lamichhane claimed that the cooperative fraud case was used as a pretext to launch political retaliation against the party, which intensified after the Nepali Congress-led government came to power.
“Bare political vendetta was launched against the RSP. Institutional mechanisms were used for it,” he said, alleging that charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime and money laundering were brought against him despite the findings of a parliamentary special committee.

Lamichhane claimed that new cases were repeatedly added against him, prosecution was expanded and he was transferred between prisons overnight. He said he was even asked about his “last wish,” calling the incidents the “height of political revenge.”
“One case after another was added, prosecution was expanded, and I was shifted to another prison overnight. I was even asked about my last wish,” he said.
Accusing the state of misusing the legislature, executive and judiciary, Lamichhane claimed that the parliamentary committee’s findings were turned into a political weapon, the executive became a “factory of oppression,” and the judiciary was also misused.
“The three organs of the state were used to launch a planned political attack against me and the RSP,” he said.
Lamichhane described the actions against him and his party as an “organized political crime,” claiming that several political figures involved in it are no longer in Parliament.
“If this was not political revenge, why did the people oppose it? Why could many of those involved not return to Parliament?” he questioned, adding that the country had recognized the situation as an injustice.
