KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Nikita Poudel, wife of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, has accused Nepal’s judiciary of systematically denying justice to her husband and announced plans to appeal to an international court.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Poudel questioned how the judiciary could be trusted when, according to her, court proceedings and verdicts have repeatedly gone against them despite the government side failing to answer questions during hearings.

“Honorable Chief Justice, should I even appeal to the High Court against the District Court’s order? In every hearing, the government side cannot respond to the bench’s queries, yet the verdict is never in our favor,” she wrote. “Orders come late at night, hours after hearings conclude, with copy-paste content, media trials, and unusual activities in the courtroom. Where can I go against such blatant injustice toward the leader of an opposition party under a two-thirds majority government?”

Poudel further alleged that judges awaiting promotion or transfer refrain from ruling against the government. “If I trust the judiciary, I must also accept that letters threatening it are prepared in the Home Minister’s office. I hear people say, ‘If your case lands in a certain bench, you’re finished.’ Who will dare to challenge a two-thirds majority government while waiting for promotion?” she questioned.

She claimed all cases against Lamichhane were filed after Ramesh Lekhak became Home Minister and none were within the statute of limitations. Citing her husband’s view that state organs are “like the different heads of the same Ravana,” Poudel said she would continue her legal fight regardless of the outcome.“I will knock on every door provided by law and the constitution. But since I need help to take this injustice to an international court, I appeal to those with influence to support me,” she said.
