KATHMANDU, May 30: Rainfall is expected in several parts of the country today, with the possibility of strong winds in some areas.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, skies will remain generally cloudy across the country during the day. Light to moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
There is also a possibility of light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning in a few locations across the Terai regions of Madhesh, Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Heavy rainfall forecast in Bagmati, several provinces
The department has warned of possible windstorms in some hilly and Terai areas of the country.
For tonight, the department forecasts generally cloudy conditions over the hilly and mountainous regions, particularly in Sudurpashchim Province and other highland areas, while the rest of the country is expected to experience partly cloudy skies.
Light rain or snowfall is likely at a few locations in the hilly and mountainous regions of Sudurpashchim, Karnali, and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places in the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini provinces.
Meteorologist Binod Pokharel said the rainfall brought by the western disturbance is expected to gradually weaken from Sunday onward.
“Rainfall is likely to be limited to only a few places next week,” he wrote on Facebook. “However, the effects of the western disturbance will continue for a few more days, so temperatures are unlikely to rise significantly.”
Pokharel noted that rainfall was already occurring across central Nepal, including Kathmandu, this morning, and said there is a good chance of widespread rain in Madhesh Province later today.
According to the department, Nepal’s weather is currently being influenced by an upper-level western low-pressure trough, local wind systems, and a low-pressure line extending close to Nepal from west to east.
